Real Minero comes from Santa Catarina Minas, the Oaxacan village famous for distilling in clay pots rather than copper. The label is run by the Ángeles Carreño family, and since the death of patriarch Don Lorenzo it has been led by Graciela Ángeles Carreño, one of the most influential voices in mezcal today.
Clay distillation is slower, more fragile and lower yielding than copper, and it leaves a distinct signature: a soft, mineral, slightly earthy texture that drinkers either seek out specifically or find unusual at first.
Beyond the bottles, Real Minero is known for agave conservation — the family maintains a nursery and replants species like arroqueño and barril that take decades to mature, which is part of why the range is priced as it is.
What Real Minero is known for
Clay-pot distillation, multi-generational family production in Santa Catarina Minas, and serious agave conservation work alongside the commercial range.
Where to start in the range
Largo or Espadín to meet the clay signature, Barril for depth, Arroqueño when you want the label's most celebrated wild agave, and Pechuga for the ceremonial expression.
